Giving Your Students
Freedom to Fly:
Integrating the
Emotional Intelligence
into the Curriculum
|
|
We do not know whether our children will fly or fall. Yet to have faith in them—to give them wings and pass on to them the spirit of life---is to give our children the freedom to fly! ---Chris Brewer
Based on Chris’ book Freedom to Fly, this workshop gives you concepts and practical activities to build emotional intelligence. The activities are designed to be integrated throughout the curriculum by being taught as part of content areas such as science, social studies, geography, health and language arts.
The active-ities teach self–awareness, social perception and communication skills, and heighten expressive abilities. Using these techniques, emotional intelligence can become a foundation throughout your teaching, eliminating the need to address this intelligence as a separate topic area. Because the activities generally improve classroom behavior and atmosphere, classroom community builds and student motivation is enhanced.
